It’s A Wonderful Life.
Chicas…
I bid you all a belated Merry Christmas. I can only hope that awl of yours was as great as mine.
You might believe that mine was great only because I got so many wonderful presents.
Well let me tell you that if you were thinking that, you’re very much wrong.
I’m Alicia Rivera, and I have tons of money to spend whenever I feel like it. There was no point in getting a ton of gifts that I couldn’t have already bought.
You see, this Christmas holiday I decided to dedicate all of my time and some cash helping charities. It makes me incredibly sad seeing someone less fortunate than I. There are tons of people out there who have never gotten a Christmas present in their life.
These people never have enough to eat, they never have the warmth and comfort of a home, and a lot of times never get helped.
This is where I came in.
Like I said a few lines up, I have tons of money. My motto on my credit card is, ‘the limit does not exist.’ [Obviously meaning I'll always have enough money.] So I decided to go down to Westchester’s local homeless shelter [shocker we have one, right?] and spend my Christmas Eve and most of my Christmas day there.
The week before Christmas, I had been going around all of the Westchester neighborhoods asking for last season’s coats, scarves, hats, gloves and blankets. Each person who’s house I went to, asked what I was doing with all of those outdated clothes since I’d never been seen wearing anything off season. I told them that I was collecting for the homeless shelter and that I was going to be helping out there this break. I apparently touched awl of their hearts because they each gave me a thousand dollar check to buy more clothes, blankets and food for the homeless.
After I had bought all that I could transport, I had my driver drive me over to the homeless shelter. You’d think, that this being Westchester, they would have a nice homeless shelter. [Okay, well you'd think we wouldn't have homeless shelters or homeless people.] The homeless shelter was far from nice. I was in shock and pity at the terrible condition of it.
Immediately upon seeing it, I pulled out my iPhone 4 and dialed my father’s number. When he picked up, I explained to him what was going on, and if he would allow me to somehow get a better shelter built. Not being able to deny his little girl anything, and also being amazed at my kindness, assured me he would get right to it.
After the phone call, I marched into the building, smiling warmly at every person I walked past. When I saw a lady who appeared to be a worker at the shelter, I walked over and started telling her about everything that I had gotten. The shock on her face was apparent. We walked out to the car together, and when she saw all that I brought, she started to tear up and was thanking me profusely.
I told her it was nothing and started helping her unload all of the items. When we walked back into the shelter with our arms full of stuff, the eyes of the homeless lit up. It warmed my heart to see their joy.
Needless to say, I spent the other couple days before Christmas helping out still. I knew it would be a few months before a new homeless shelter would be finished being built, so I decided to buy some decor that would make the place somehow more homier.
Christmas Eve came, and I hired a chef to start preparing a Christmas dinner for the people. While the chef was preparing, I was out shopping. I was shopping for all of those who lived at the shelter. I bought them all new clothes, some sanitary tools, books, a few TVs to place around the shelter along with movies and TV show seasons, and for the kids I bought them toys of all kinds.
The joy and hope on their faces was beyond that time when we brought in the coats and blankets. You could tell that they felt loved and cared for, for once in their lives. It was truly amazing.
